The primary products of this business unit are copper and tin ingots. Copper has excellent electrical and heat conductivity as well as rollability that make it a valuable material in the construction, consumer electronics, electric power, automotive and a wide variety of other industries in the form of wires and rolled copper products. Tin has a low melting point and a relatively stable chemical composition that make it widely used in alloys like solder and tinplate.

Our copper and tin ingots business makes use of the international network of Mitsubishi Corp. to source commodities from suppliers around the globe and provide stable supplies to customers in Japan and other areas of Asia. We have invested in a copper refinery in Gresik, Indonesia and also trade the anode slime that it produces as a byproduct. In addition, we make active use of hedges on the LME and other futures markets to reduce price risk, and we propose strategies for using derivatives to better meet customer needs.
